Weeping Spoon Productions celebrate 20 years of making weird and wonderful indy theatre with their new work THE YEAR THERE WERE NO MONSTERS.
Ordinary People. Extraordinary Lives. And also, there’s Monsters
From the creator of ★★★★★ Fringe Hit The Ballad Of Frank Allen and the Martin Sims and Just For Laughs Award-Winning Vehicle, comes a brand new one-man comedy that explores the triumph of the human spirit against all odds.
THE YEAR THERE WERE NO MONSTERS takes place in a world where giant mutant monsters roam the Earth and one legendary alien hero protects us all. A hero that is so good at their job, in fact, that for one entire year, there were NO monsters. Tonight, a group of bizarre and eccentric “Everyday people” gather at an Open Mic to tell their stories. Told through story, song, clown, mime and “high art” these characters explore themes of love, loss, betrayal, divine inspiration, perseverance and what it truly means to be a “hero” in today’s world.
Inspired by 1960’s Japanese pop-culture icons like Ultraman and Kamen Rider, the legend of Godzilla, Super Sentai and other Tokusatsu heroes, a man and his guitar will take the audience of a hilarious journey through some truly strange and wonderful characters in a reality just one small step away from our own.
A new work and the second major collaboration between fringe-fav Shane Adamczak and director Sam Longley who’s work Vehicle won the 2023 Fringe World “Best Theatre” and “Martin Sims” Awards plus the coveted “Just For Laughs – Best Comedy” Award at the 2024 Montreal Fringe Festival.
A one-man comedy about a bunch of weird, eccentric characters telling stories about living in a world where giant monsters exist. One man and a guitar presenting uplifting tales of the human spirit. There will be songs, there will be laughs, oh and there WILL BE MONSTERS.
